  • My mama Easter Holder went to heaven Jan. 4th. The staff was wonderful.

This funeral home has a lack of communication within their staff and they are in desperate need of sensitivity training. Their job is supposed to be supporting people who have recently lost a loved one. This means that they need to work with a variety of people and circumstances.

A family member of mine who is not the most upstanding citizen (that's the most politically correct way for me to put that) showed up when my grandmother died. Let's just say he wasn't there to mourn. He signs a piece of paper and bails. He has no permanent address, no working phone, no car, no driver's license and more drugs than your local Rite Aid. I called Companion Funeral & Cremation to let them know that I am the point of contact and ask what I need to do. I was the point of contact at the Hospice but apparently ANYONE can walk into a funeral home and be the "informant" and get all the things they had on them and the documents needed to deal with the estate. Doesn't seem logical to me, but moving on. The director Trae tells me I need to complete a form authorizing the cremation, which he will email me. Two days later, nothing. I call again and he finally emails me the form. I talked to him about how I would be in town clearing my grandmother's things from her hospice facility in a week, can I pick everything up then? He said yes. A week later, I call him and he said I could probably go pick her up but I need to call and double check with the office because he's not in. I call the office and I'm told she hasn't been cremated because they are waiting on a signature for her Death Certificate. They said they would send the Death Certificates with the remains once they were able to move forward. Another family member requested the remains, I said that he was welcome to have them but I needed the Death Certificates for the estate. After that a MONTH goes by. No one received any Death Certificates. I called and they said they were sent with the remains. No, they weren't. I called back after re-verifying this. I was told they were sent to my very irresponsible family member because he was the informant.....So, my previous calls talking to these people were a HUGE WASTE OF EVERYONES TIME and A FALSE SENSE OF SECURITY thinking that everything was going to be handled properly. I finally talked to the person who said she mailed them out "this morning" and she just didn't see the note that they were supposed to be sent to me. The only options I have are to hunt down these Death Certificates, sent to whatever house my family member was crashing at over a month ago or I have to drive two states away to Tennessee to go to the heath department and pay to get replacements...for THEIR mistake. I talked to them so many times. This shouldn't have happened. They were not apologetic, they were not willing to work with me, they took no responsibility for their mistake.

I've lost both my parents and all of my grandparents and I've never had a bad experience with a funeral home like this. I've never had such a long waiting period, I've never had mishandled/forgotten about Death Certificates.

Please take your loved ones somewhere else.
    Anywhere else.
